How long does a dental expert witness report take?

Timescales depend on the complexity of the case and the documents provided. A condition and prognosis report typically takes two to three weeks from receipt of complete records. Breach of duty and causation reports may take longer where the clinical history is complex. Please include any relevant deadline when making your enquiry.

Do you accept single joint expert instructions?

Yes. Instructions are accepted from claimant solicitors, defendant solicitors, and as a single joint expert (SJE) appointed by both parties. All reports comply with CPR Part 35 and the accompanying Practice Direction.

What types of dental case do you cover?

Instructions are accepted in dental clinical negligence and personal injury matters involving general dentistry. This includes restorative treatment, extractions and oral surgery, periodontal disease, treatment planning, diagnosis, and condition and prognosis following trauma. Highly specialist areas such as orthodontics or oral and maxillofacial surgery fall outside the scope of general dental practice and would not normally be accepted.

What documents should I send?

The most useful documents are the full dental records (clinical notes and radiographs) from all relevant treating practitioners, a schedule of the allegations or issues to be addressed, any relevant medical records, and the letter of instruction.
